https://www.unesco.org/fr/days/literacy

Bonne lecture !

Today is International Literacy Day.

The theme for this year is:
Promoting multilingual education: Literacy for mutual understanding and peace

https://www.unesco.org/en/days/literacy

Multilingual education has been on our heart for a long time. It is precious to be able to read every language one speaks.

The government of Benin is giving education in French to all pupils.

Since 2018, our team has been teaching Anii reading lessons in the high schools of Bodi, Nagayilé, Pénéssoulou, Lantal (between Pénélan and Aledjo), Kodowari and Bassila.

Since 2023, we have been teaching trial classes of Anii reading in some primary schools of Bayakou, Dengou, Agarendébou and Bassila.

Hundreds of pupils have started to read in the Anii language.

Our dream is that one day the Anii language will be officially accepted into the Beninese school system as one of the national languages.

To celebrate International Literacy day with your family, sit down together and read these two beautiful books in Anii:

The first one is a lovely book which is easy to read. It speaks of Samiou and his friends.
https://www.africanstorybook.org/newviewer/index.php?id=39166&bt=2&dual=false

And this second book is a very nice folk tale which speaks of the False King Goat.

Enjoy reading!
